Fine copy of an exceptionally scarce, authentically inscribed and signed [‘To Caytlin, J.K. Rowling’] first edition, first printing of The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
This highly sought-after collector’s item was signed by J.K. Rowling during the launch event on 4 December 2008 at the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh. The event featured a private reading by Rowling, with the children invited to attend selected through a random ballot. Up to 20 pupils from each of 10 local schools, aged eight to 11, had the opportunity to participate.
This copy bears the hologram used to authenticate books signed at the event. The holograms were applied after the signing by an assistant, however, and a number of copies are known to have been signed without subsequently receiving one.
Given the scarcity of signed copies, and the fact that The Tales of Beedle the Bard is one of the most frequently forged signed titles in Rowling’s catalogue, this authentic copy represents a rare and desirable opportunity for collectors.
Fully authenticated by J.K. Rowling signature expert Adam Houston of The Harry Potter Specialist, the book comes with a Letter of Authenticity and is housed in a custom-made half-leather clamshell box.
