The Harry Potter series - An exceptional collection of eight signed first editions
The Harry Potter series - An exceptional collection of eight signed first editions
A distinguished collection comprising all seven Harry Potter novels and The Tales of Beedle the Bard, each bearing an authenticated J.K. Rowling signature. The collection brings together early Bloomsbury hardback printings, exceptionally rare publisher-issued signed bookplates and remarkable provenance. All eight volumes are presented in individually commissioned half-leather clamshell boxes and accompanied by individual Letters of Authenticity.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
First edition, 12th printing
A very good to near-fine copy, signed by J.K. Rowling on the dedication page in 1999. Retains the early Joanne Rowling attribution, original copyright-page points and first-generation dust jacket artwork. The unclipped dust jacket is near fine, showing minimal wear and virtually no fading.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
First edition, 6th printing
A near-fine copy, signed by J.K. Rowling on the dedication page in 1999. This early printing predates the introduction of the Hogwarts crest on the title and half-title pages. Internally clean, with a firm binding and a near-fine, unfaded dust jacket.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
First edition, 5th printing
A near-fine copy, signed by J.K. Rowling on the dedication page in 1999. Authentic signatures from this early period are particularly desirable. Clean throughout, with minor bumping and a near-fine dust jacket.
Shared provenance of the first three volumes
All three books were signed in 1999 when their original owner, a primary-school librarian in northwest London, accompanied pupils to a J.K. Rowling signing at a local bookshop.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
First edition, first printing (2000)
A near-fine copy in a near-fine dust jacket, featuring an official Bloomsbury bookplate signed by J.K. Rowling in her distinctive 1999 signature style and affixed to the front free endpaper. These promotional bookplates were distributed in very limited numbers to selected booksellers before publication and are considerably scarcer than copies signed during Rowling's extensive promotional tour in 2000.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
First edition, first printing (2003)
A fine copy accompanied by an exceptionally rare, loosely inserted signed Bloomsbury bookplate. Awarded to nine-year-old Will Matthews as the winner of a poetry competition organised by October Books in Southampton in June 2003. The prize was presented by the mayor, and the occasion was reported in the Southern Daily Echo. Accompanied by the original Sorting Hat scroll and a scan of the winner's detailed handwritten provenance letter. Unused signed bookplates from this publication are exceptionally scarce.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
First edition, first printing (2005)
A near-fine copy featuring a specially designed, officially issued Half-Blood Prince bookplate signed by J.K. Rowling and affixed to the half-title page. Produced in limited numbers to coincide with the book's publication in 2005, these signed bookplates were distributed through selected promotional channels. This particular copy was printed in Australia for Bloomsbury and is believed to have originated from a competition organised by The Sydney Morning Herald. Minor bumping and slight toning to the page edges; otherwise well preserved.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
First edition, first printing (2007)
A fine copy personally inscribed “To Helen” by J.K. Rowling, with a kiss mark and her official authentication hologram. Signed at the exclusive Moonlight Signing held at London's Natural History Museum on 21 July 2007.
Exceptionally, the complete original event package survives, including the numbered queue card, information sheets, poster, promotional materials, balloons and original event bag. Even the original Post-it note bearing the recipient's name remains in the book. The dust jacket is fine and unfaded.
The Tales of Beedle the Bard
First UK edition, first printing (2008)
A copy featuring an exceptionally rare official Bloomsbury bookplate signed by J.K. Rowling and affixed to the half-title page. Bearing Rowling's authentication hologram, these specially produced bookplates were distributed to a select number of recipients.
Approximately 200–250 copies are believed to have been signed at the December 2008 launch event, while an even smaller number are thought to have been issued with these signed bookplates. Authentic signed examples are among the most elusive Rowling-signed publications.
Presentation and authentication
