First edition, early 13th UK Bloomsbury printing of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone published in 1997 paired with a first edition, early eighth UK Bloomsbury printing of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, published in 1998. This set comes in an original 1998 UK Bloomsbury “The Harry Potter Gift set” slipcase.
Philosopher’s Stone features the original illustration of the brown-haired young wizard on the reverse and spine, which was replaced by an image of Dumbledore in later printings. The very early edition of Chamber of Secrets was the first printing with the Hogwarts shield on the title pages which was used in all subsequent printings.
Both books are in excellent condition. Bindings are firm. The is an inscription to the first free endpaper of Phil. Stone, otherwise the interiors are clean with bright pages.The near-fine first-state dust jackets show hardly any fading to the spines and, apart from a small scuff to the spine of Philosopher's Stone, are free from wear. Both jackets are now protected by removable Brodart archival covers. The slipcase is in excellent condition.
