Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - signed Black Saturday bushfire relief copy
A near-pristine copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Bloomsbury paperback, second edition, later impression (13th printing).
In response to the devastating Black Saturday bushfires that struck Victoria, Australia, in February 2009, J.K. Rowling donated bookplate-signed copies of the novel to children who had lost their homes, possessions, and books in one of the worst natural disasters in Australian history. Working with her Australian publisher, Allen & Unwin, these copies were distributed through bushfire relief organisations throughout Victoria.
Each book contains an official Allen & Unwin signed bookplate affixed to the half-title page, accompanied by a Rowling authenticity hologram. Also included is Rowling's printed message to the recipients:
"Dear Reader,
I was so sorry to hear about the terrible bushfires in Victoria and the devastation they caused. I know that many children lost not only their homes and possessions, but also their treasured books.
I hope that this copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone will bring you some comfort and enjoyment, and remind you that even in difficult times, stories can provide hope, friendship and escape.
With my very best wishes,
J.K. Rowling"
This example is in exceptional condition. The book appears unread and remains remarkably well preserved. Aside from a very light and unobtrusive crease to the front cover, it presents in near-pristine condition throughout, with clean pages, a tight binding, and virtually no signs of handling or wear.
The volume is housed in a custom-made half-leather clamshell box, providing both protection and an elegant presentation.
Accompanying the book is a Letter of Authenticity issued by Adam Houston of The Harry Potter Specialist, the world's leading authority on J.K. Rowling's signature.
Far more than a signed Harry Potter book, this edition stands as a poignant reminder of J.K. Rowling's compassion and of the comfort that stories can bring in times of unimaginable loss.
