Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - exceptionally rare signed first edition, first printing

First UK Bloomsbury edition, first printing of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, signed by J.K. Rowling on the half-title page.

A highly distinctive signed copy, markedly different from the thousands of signed Goblet of Fire first editions that entered circulation during Rowling’s nationwide signing tour in the summer of 2000.

The overwhelming majority of those copies were signed on the dedication page during large, fast-paced public signing events. As a result, many bear the larger, more rapidly executed form of Rowling’s signature characteristic of this tour.

By contrast, this copy is signed on the half-title page and bears a notably more compact and carefully executed signature. Copies signed in this manner and in this location are genuinely rare and are generally associated with private signings, charitable donations, or other special circumstances outside the mass signing events.

This particular copy was signed by J.K. Rowling on 14 September 2000 and personally donated for a fundraising event benefiting the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust. Its distinctive signature, unusual placement, specific signing date and documented charitable provenance therefore set it clearly apart from the large number of conventionally signed copies from the 2000 tour.

The book was subsequently won by the previous owner, who stored it undisturbed in a cupboard and protected from light for more than twenty years. It is accompanied by the original letter dated 2 October 2000, addressed to the previous owner as the winner of this specific copy, together with a copy of a letter from Fiddy Henderson, J.K. Rowling’s personal assistant.

A near pristine, unread copy, with only a very minor bump to the lower spine end. Otherwise exceptionally fine, with bright, clean pages notably free from the browning to the page edges so often encountered in copies of this edition. Housed in a fine first-state dust jacket.

The book is presented in a custom-made half-leather clamshell box, providing both long-term protection and an elegant presentation.

Accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity (LoA) from Adam Houston of The Harry Potter Specialist, the world’s sole expert on J.K. Rowling’s signature.

The combination of the unusual half-title signature, its more carefully executed form, the precise signing date, documented charitable provenance and exceptional condition makes this a particularly distinctive example among signed first printings of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
