Association copy of a first edition, early third impression of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, inscribed and signed [‘To Kari, J.K. ROWLING – At Last!!!’] on the dedication page. According to Errington [p68] the 3rd printrun comprised 5,000 copies. The book was signed on August 26th, 1999, at the Edinburgh Book Festival for the 11-year-old daughter of Douglas Robertson, the long-time house photographer of the festival. Robertson was also commissioned by the University of Edinburgh to document the 2004 ceremony in which J.K. Rowling was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters degree for her contribution to literature and was the sole photographer who documented the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at Edinburgh Castle in 2005.
The book is in near fine condition, with bumped spine ends and sharp corner tips. Inside clean, without inscriptions, stains or dog-ears. The first state dust jacket is in near fine condition, with some light edge wear. Now protected by a removable Brodart transparent archival cover.
A signed letter from Robertson is included with the book, in which he describes his previous encounters with Rowling and explains the charming reason for the inscription. It is also accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity (LoA) from Adam Houston of The Harry Potter Specialist, the world's sole expert on J.K. Rowling’s signature.
